Interview with Mehmet Görkem İşgüzar

1. Hi Görkem, let us know you first.

Hello, my name is Mehmet Görkem İşgüzar. I am the infrastructure coach at Ziraat Bank Sports Club. I worked in every category of the club, including the Efeler league, and I am currently in my 7th season at the club. At the same time, I am a PhD student at Gazi University, Institute of Health Sciences, Department of Training and Movement.

2. Could you tell us about the history and achievements of Ziraat Bank Sports Club? Especially the Turkish Championship you experienced for the first time means a lot, years of experience.

Our club was founded in 1981 and until today has had successes such as Turkish Cup and Super Cup Championship, CEV and Challenge Cup 2nd Division. In addition, there are many Turkish champions and degrees in the infrastructure. Apart from all these, the Efeler league championship, which was won for the first time in the club’s history, is of particular importance. The fact that this championship came in the 40th year of the club makes a special sense.

3. Your infrastructure works are important, the club is a volleyball player factory in this regard, what will you say about this?

Ziraat Bank sports club is a club that has given importance to infrastructure for many years, and we have started to reap the fruits of this. There were 4 youth athletes in the squad of our Efler team, which was the champion this year. In fact, it is a great pleasure for us that our setter, who came out of the infrastructure in the final match, entered the game later, continued the game and made a great contribution to the championship. Apart from these athletes, there are nearly 20 athletes trained in Ziraat Bank’s infrastructure and playing in the Efeler league. This number is increasing with the players playing in the lower leagues. Ziraat Bank built a second hall for Infrastructure activities. Even this investment alone can be an indication of the importance the club attaches to infrastructure. In addition, there are lodging for 17 people in the complex for the accommodation of athletes coming from outside of Ankara, and two fitness centres for the use of all athletes, an athlete health centre and a cafeteria. The complex, which is monitored by cameras 24 hours a day and has a security guard, is one of the few sports complexes in Turkey in Volleyball. 4. What kind of activities related to recycling and environmental protection are available in the club? Are there any sample apps?

Regarding recycling at the club, we primarily use separate collection boxes for paper waste in offices. Apart from that, we collect the plastic bottle wastes of the water consumed in the training separately and recycle them. Apart from all these, we send balls that have been used or have been removed from official competitions by the FIVB, and unused materials such as tracksuits, shorts and t-shirts that have been left over from the season, to infrastructure clubs in various provinces of Anatolia that have agreements with our club regarding player discovery. Thus, we not only evaluate the materials in subcategories, but also introduce the children in Anatolia to Volleyball and Ziraat Bank Sports Club.
